'Abud - Greek Orthodox church of Setti Miriam; al-'Abudiyah

General description:

Basilica with a narthex. Dimensions of the structure are 22.8X14.5 m.

History:

The church was constructed in the Byzantine period, 5-6th century, based on the style of the capitals. The church goes out of use in the 7th century, based on the Byzantine-Medieval debris of the church. A reconstruction is done not earlier than the late 11th century, based on an inscription found in the church. During the 12-16th centuries, graves are dug north of the church and eventually get covered by a modern dump.

The church is still in use.
