Ḥorvat Beer Shem'a - St. Stephanos

General description:

The church and the baptistery were paved with well-preserved mosaics. In the church, the nave apse and postaphori, the aisles and the and bema were decorated with colored mosaics.

The mosaics in the church and baptistry contain ten Greek inscriptions of various names, including its benefactor St. Stephanos.

Various mosaic fragments found in the aisles indicate there was a gallery above.

History:

The style of the mosaics and other findings suggest the church was in use from about the last third of the sixth-century C.E and until the mid-seventh century C.E.
