In the mosaic pavement near the southern threshold in the western room of the baptistery (Locus 13).

Physical description : 

Damaged seven-line mosaic inscription within a medallion; a lozenge above the first line; white background, but multi-colored tesserae are used for the letters.

Meas.: letters 6.4-7.2 cm.

Text: 

       Ἐπὶ τοῦ θεο-

       φιλ(εστάτου) Σαλα-

       ονος πρεσβ(υτέρου) κ(αὶ)

4     [ἡ]γουμ(ένου) ἐψηφώ(θη)

       [τ]ὰ ὁ͂δε μη(νὶ) Ξανθι(κῷ)

       τοῦ δνχ’ [ἔτους]

       ἰνδ(ικτιῶνος) [ιβʹ

Translation: 

Under the most God-loving priest and abbot Salaon were these (things) furnished with mosaic, in the month of Xanthikos, year 654, indiction 12. (CIIP)

Commentary: 

Year 654 (era of Gaza) = 594 AD; Xanthikos: 27 March until 26 April, which in 594 AD fell on the 12th indiction.
