Summary:
Confused mention of the monastery of holy Saba in the area of Bethlehem, from an 8th cent. guidebook for pilgrims.
Although Mar Saba actually lies to the east of Bethlehem about the same latitude, the text confusedly locates it together with Chariton’s Old Laura “to the south of Bethlehem”, just as it later locates Thedosius’s monastery even further south, together with the ghost monastery of St Dionysius, though in actuality Deir Dosi lies to north-east of Bethlehem.
