In the mosaic carpet of the nave of the basilica (Locus 4).
Eight-line mosaic inscription in a section displaying medallions formed from a vine-trellis. Differently colored letters, partly made of glass, on white background (ll.1-2: blue; ll.3-6: black; ll.7-8.: red). Begins and ends with a cross.
Meas.: letters 4.4-7.6 cm.
☩ Ἐγένετο τὸ πᾶν ἔρ-
γον τῆς χαμωψηφόσεος
ταύτης ἐπὶ Σεργίου τοῦ
4 ἁγιωτ(άτου) ἡμῶν ἐπισκόπου
Ἄζης καὶ Στεφάνου Θω[μ]-
ᾶ περ(ιοδευτοῦ) καὶ ἡγουμένου ἐν μη(νὶ)
Λῴου τοῦ βϙψʹ
8 ἔτους, ἰνδ(ικτιῶνος) ιεʹ. ☩
The whole work of this mosaic on the floor was completed under our most holy bishop of Gaza, Sergius, and under Stephanus (son) of Thomas, periodeutes and abbot, in the month of Loos, year 792, indiction 15. (CIIP)
Building inscription within a semi-medallion, in the mosaic carpet of the nave of the basilica, July/August 732 CE.
Year 792 (era of Gaza) = 732 AD; Loios: 25 July until 23 August, which in 732 AD fell on the 15th indiction.
