Summary:
Confused description of the cave of the house of Mary, presumably from a passage lost in the MS of Egeria's itinerary of AD 381-384, as recorded in a guidebook compiled 1137.
Wilkinson, p. 193n3-4, assumes that only the first part describing "the cave now included within the Church of the Annunciation (not yet built in the fourth century)" comes from Egeria, while the spring in the second part "is clearly the crypt and spring which form part of the present Church of St Gabriel. Peter appears to have confused the two."
