Paragraph:
I, 22
Translation:
I will also tell you something else that happened in my presence, so that you can learn that obedience and the repression of the individual can save a man even from death. Once, when I was in the (monastery) of Abba Seridus, a disciple of a great old man from the region of Ascalon came on some mission on behalf of his Abba. He had orders from the old man to return by evening to his cell. But just then a very strong storm came up, and there were showers of rain and thundering, and the nearby river overflowed its banks. Nevertheless, he wanted to return, in obedience to the word of the old man. <The monk successfully crosses the flood because of his obedience.>
