The deacon Fidus built the funeral chapel with great zeal, in the site of the cave where great Euthymius had first lived in seclusion. He demolished the cave, and in only three months he erected a great and beautiful vaulted chamber. In the middle he placed the holy man’s grave, while on both sides he prepared graves for hegumens, priests and other saintly men. The archbishop sent in advance the covering plaque with the silver funnel and the surrounding balustrade, then he descended to the laura and removed the venerable remains to the place prepared for them, carrying them with his own hands; after he deposited (the body) securely, so that nobody could open (the receptacle) and steal a relic, he set the plaque in place, fixing the funnel above the breast (of the holy man). From that time to this very day this funnel pours out manifold wonderful deeds for everyone who approaches it with faith. The translation of the (holy man’s) remains took place on May 7. Then the archbishop, after having celebrated the mass, took Martyrius and Elias with him to the holy city and appointed them priests of the holy church of the Resurrection.
