One of the holy spiritual fathers, Silas by name, an Arab by birth, who resided in the caves of Pharan, that is near Jerusalem used to tell the brothers this story:
“Some years ago an anchorite, a good friend of mine, lived in the eremitical caves of Calamon, and it was my habit to visit him on the annual Festivals, to bring him a few necessities and to receive his blessing. Once shortly before the holy Feast of Easter, I put a little soaked pulse and a few small ‘blessing-loaves’ of bread in my pouch and took off, as was my custom, to go to the servant of God. But according to some divine plan, it happened that I forgot where the cave was, and though I looked for it for a long time, I was chagrined at not being able to find it. As I wandered among the hills and the ravines in that area, the heat of noon caught me and I became very thirsty ... <Wandering about, the monk discovered by chance the refuge of a female solitary, the senator’s daughter or Syncletica>.
