Bir el Qattar - SPELAION

Paragraph:
66
Translation:

Already the fourth year of drought had drawn to an end <520 AD>, when the disciples of the hallowed father (who resided) in the cave came to the Great laura and said to him: “Dismiss us, father, for we cannot remain in your monastery, since we have absolutely no water, and, as the month of May has come to an end, the rainy season is by now finished”. The holy man on the one hand rebuked them, on the other encouraged them to await the events to come with a grateful heart. “I have faith in God,” he said, “that within three days all your receptacles will be full: so go back, put in working order the water carriers and make them ready, and you shall see the gift of God and His speedy visitation”. And on the third day a cloud appeared, only above the same monastery, an abundant rain fell, and as the holy man had prophesied, all the receptacles were filled (with water). In the monasteries on both sides of the Cave, on the other hand, the (monastery) of Castellion to the east, the (monastery) of the Scholarios about five stadia away to the west, and in the Great Laura, that is to the south-west, not a drop of water fell. The chiefs of those monasteries were grieved; they went to the old man and said to him: “What is our sin, reverend father, that you have rejected us and have not prayed for your other monasteries as well?” And the holy man answered: God has sent His blessing to those who need it (most). But you must not be discouraged, for your reserve of water will not fail, until God will bring the (next) rainstorm upon the earth”.
