1 | Mosaic floor | 95 sq pr dm | The nave mosaic has a central design consisting of stylized red crosses attached to connected diamonds. A large diamond is set at the center of each cross. Semicircle shapes that create a floral border fill the remaining space. Each semicircle holds a red circle at its center with a small white cross in the middle. The frame consists of a broad quadriplaited inlay. An inscription in a rectangular frame (1.1 m 40) facing east reads: "For the salvation of Demetrius the deacon of Georgius his son and of all their household, the whole work was completed in the month of April of the year 582, indiction 12". | Inscriptions | |||||||||||
2 | Mosaic floor | Three rectangular intercolumniation carpets (1.5 x 0.5 m ). The western carpet is framed by a border of two gray-blue tesserae on either side of two rows of red stones. The inner field is dotted with flowers with gray stems and red blossoms. The middle carpet design is set in a frame consisting of four rows of stones; a gray row and a red row. The carpet creates a diamond pattern formed from lines of gray, red and orange tesserae on either side of a white line. Inside each formed diamond is a small cross in varying colors of red and gray. |
