Location:

Painted at the foot of the Ascension scene in the apsis of the cave-church.

Physical description :

White painting on the blue background, split into three parts. The first part is written in two lines to the left-hand side of an angel beneath the wing and arm; the second part on the right side of the angel beneath his wing and arm; the third part below, beneath the puff of the angel’s garment.

☩ Ἄρατε πύλας

οἱ ἄρχοντες ὑμῶν,

κ(αὶ) ἐπάρθ[ητε], πύλαι

αἰών[ιοι].

Translation:

Lift up your gates, oh princes, and be lifted up, oh everlasting doors. (Ps. 23 [24]:7/9)
