Translation:

Abba Polychronius told us this story: In the Laura of the Towers of the Jordan I observed that one of the brothers there was negligent about his soul and never performed the divine office of the holy Sunday. Then, some time later, I saw that this negligent (monk) now devoted all his time (to his religions duties) with great alacrity and zeal. So I said to him: “You do well now, taking care of your soul, brother”, and he replied: “Sir Abba, I am to die presently”; and three days later he went to rest.

This same Abba Polychronius, priest of the New Laura, told me this story: When I resided in the Laura of the Towers, a brother died, and the steward said to me: “Do me a favour, brother, come and help me bring his chattels to the store-room When he began to shift those things, I saw the steward cry and asked him: “Why in truth do you cry so, Sir Abba?”, and he answered: “Because today I carry away this brother’s chattels, and within two days others will carry mine”. And so it happened: for on the second day the steward went to rest, just as he had said.
