12473 Magen St. Kyrikos ecclesiastical complex North-Western Negev A baptistery (see below). A second basilica (see below). The second basilica (Building A), peg-shaped, was attached on the left to the main basilica (building B) during the second phase. It was preserved to a length of 14m. The apse was destroyed during later activities, yet Tzaferis reconstruct it as semicircular and the aisles - with dead-ends. It was elevated by 1 step above the nave, and paved with colorful mosaics with geometric, floral, animal and human designs. The mosaics also bore several Greek inscriptions, one of them honors St. Kyrikos to whom, seemingly, the entire complex, not only Basilica A, was dedicated. The second basilica was adjoined farther "north" (namely, to the left and actually east) by a baptismal chapel with cruciform baptismal font = Building D. Quadrangular chapel The "northern" wing (=Building C) of the main basilica, consisted of three interconnected units. The western one (Room 3, 4.50x5.50 m), mosaic paved with three squares surrounding a cross served according to Tzaferis as an atrium for this annex (hence, was it open to the sky?). The central unit (Room 2, 4.50x8 m)), longer than the other two, was mosaic paved. The eastern unit (Room 1, 4.30x5.90 m), rectangular in shape and mosaic paved as well, had a rectangular baptismal font (0.75x0.80 m, 1 m deep), installed in the floor near its far end. Three colonnettes next and parallel to its inner wall seem to had supported an open shelve. Hence this annex could had also served as a diakonikon / prothesis chapel. Four narrow steps descended into the baptismal font which was sunk into the floor in the center of the room. The oblong bottom of this installation was only 0.4 m wide. In phase 2, when Buildings B and C went out of use, an opening was pierced in the middle of the long eastern wall of Room 2, leading to the new baptistery, with a masonry built cruciform on its inside and outside font (Ben Pechat type 4a). A small courtyard extended between the opening and the new baptismal room. 1

13614 MAMRE; Mambre; Ramat al-Khalil Church Judean Hills On the south east and north east corners of the church are doors leading to rectangular rooms, 5.1X3.8 m., that were probably used as pastophoria. See above. 1
11982 Mamshit Church of the Saints and Martyrs (East Church) Central Negev A baptistery consisted of two rooms and an elongated trapezoidal chapel were annexed to the church on the south. Trapezoidal room The chapel is annexed on south. It is an elongated trapezoidal room with no apse and sanctuary raised one step above the hall. Built between the basilica and the town wall, it was roofed by four arches rising from pilasters attached to its lateral walls. Trapezoidal room The baptistery room is trapezoidal in shape, located west of the chapel and entered from the southern aisle of the basilica and, through an antechamber, from the atrium. The baptistery is also connected with the chapel by a doorway in its eastern wall. The font is masonry built and cruciform on the inside. 1
12595 Mamshit Nilus church (West Church) Central Negev Two interconnected, quadrangular rooms, accessed through an opening in the middle of the southern aisle. (A second opening, more to the east, led to the dwelling in which the the church was incorporated). The eastern room, square, has two rectangular cupboard in its southern wall; the western, smaller, has one cupboard in its southern wall, and another one - in its western wall. It was mosaic paved. On the basilica side the door leading to the eastern room is made of excellent ashlars, in contrast to the coarse construction of the room itself except for its northern wall, which is the southern wall of the basilica. The western room is built in the same manner as the neighboring room. Hence, it seems that this entire annex was a later addition. 1
