12599 Sawafir el-Gharbiya Church Southern Coastal Plain 1
11990 Scythopolis / Beth Shean (Tel Iẓtaba) Andreas church Beth Shean Valley The basilica is flanked on the north by a quadrangular hall recognized by a patch of colorful mosaic floor in its SE corner. The northern wall and much of the western wall of the apse did not survived. A two-rooms baptismal unit is located to its east, but there is no interconnecting passage. The baptistery was accessed from the outside through a doorway in the eastern end of the northern aisle. Quadrangular chapel Two doorways in the northern wall of the basilica lead into a large rectangular room with remains of colored mosaic floor. This room apparently used as a side chapel. Simple rectangular room A two-rooms baptismal unit is located to its east of the hall annexed to the church on the north, but there is no interconnecting passage. The entrance to the baptistery was from the south, from the paved area behind the apse, accessed through a doorway in the eastern end of the northern aisle of the church. The southern room was paved with a mosaic floor with geometric patterns. In the corner of the room there is a baptismal font sunk into the floor. No connection with the northern room is extant. It is reasonable to suggest a circuit starting in the annexed northern hall, proceeding to the northern room that might had served as undressing room, proceeding to the southern room with the font, and then returning to the church via the doorway in the eastern end of the northern aisle. 1
12579 Scythopolis / Beth Shean (Tel Iẓtaba) Church of the Martyr Beth Shean Valley A baptismal chapel annexed on the NE, extending much beyond the line of the apse. Apsidal chapel A chapel, paved with colored mosaic flooris attached on the northeast corner of the church complex. It was entered through a doorway in the eastern wall of the northern arm, between the central and northern apses. The chapel consisted of a long hall (7.8 X 15 m) and an external apse (5.5 m wide and approx. 3 m deep). A staircase along the southern wall led to a second story. A baptismal font is located at the southeastern corner of the hall, near the apse, indicating the function of this chapel. A doorway in the northern wall of the chapel led outside. 1

13729 Sede Nahum Monastic Chapel Beth Shean Valley Quadrangular chapel The wide hall attached to the chapel on the north (Room 5; 6m long and 3.7m wide, with a niche in its eastern and northern walls), seems to had served as a diakonikon. A doorway in the western wall, facing Room 4. It is marked by a basalt stone threshold, 1.65m long and 65-75cm wide with holes and grooves for the hinges and bolts. Room 4 (1.7 x 1.7m) was paved with marble tiles. An 0.85cm wide opening with a basalt threshold in the southern wall connected between the chapel and the room. The small space to the north of Room 4, with a dead end in the east, was paved with ceramic tiles and contained channels with tubes under the floor. Zori identified it as lavatory. (Room 5 was identified by Zori as a baptistry. See below. Quadrangular chapel Zori proposed, that the spacious northern room attached to the chapel on the north (Room 5), was used as baptistry, but no baptismal basin or other water installations were uncovered. It rather seems that it served as a diakonikon of the monastic chapel. The two niches in the eastern and northern walls, seem to have held cupboards. The floors were paved with decorative mosaics. 1
13674 Sepphoris East Church Lower Galilee 3 units annex. See below. Quadrangular chapel Two quadrangular rooms, each seemingly accessed from the southern aisle, were attached to it. Quadrangular chapel The eastern of the two attached chapels, attached on the south, might had served as a sacristy. 1
13616 Sepphoris West Church Lower Galilee On the north a single elongated hall, poorly preserved. Three unit annex. See below. Quadrangular chapel Three units annex was attached on the south. The largest might had been a prothesis chapel. 1

18411 Shavei Zion - North Church North Church Western Galilee 1
144 Shavei Zion - South Church South Church Western Galilee Simple rectangular room A small rectangular room was attached on the northeast, parallel and to the north of the east end of the domus. Two different mosaic floors found super-imposed one upon the other indicated two building phases. In the 2nd, later phase, the chapel was enlarged to measure 5 m. south to north and at least 6 m. west to east. It seems to had served as a martyrs chapel. In Phase 1 four bases were set ‎into the floor of its north-eastern corner, carrying small columns which surrounded a cross.‎ This installation seems to have been an altar table for a reliquary. Another possibility is that a reliquary was put underneath. 1
14664 Shderot (Horvat Neged) East Church North-Western Negev Apsidal chapel The excavator suggested that the apsidal chapel attached on the north might had served as a baptistry. But no concrete indications were reported. 1

7874 Shiloh Northern Church (Early) Southern and Western Samaria Tripartite Detached from the churches to the SW, across the street. Erected between 386 and 392, by bishop Euthropos of Sebaste and served both the early and the late North Churches. The font in the center of the middle hall is square, 2x2m in dimensions, 0.45m deep. 1
7875 Shiloh Northern Church (Late) Southern and Western Samaria Two rooms, of smaller dimensions, were annexed to the basilica on the north. The western one (3.7 X 2.3 m) could be accessed from the northern aisle and from the eastern portico of the atrium through an ante-chamber (2.3 X 1.4 m in dimensions). It is not clear how the eastern room (4.2 X 2.3 m) was accessed, since its walls were destroyed down to the foundations and the floor bedding. Pottery dated to the 4th or fifth c. was found underneath, indicating that the annex might have been a later addition. . The atrium was flanked on north by two more, elongated service rooms. They were installed over the northern narthex of the Early Basilica. Each was accessed by an earlier opening that was narrowed and got a new sill. The bolting direction was inversed. The southern side of the atrium also had an annex. It was disturbed by the maqam. See also Prothesis chapel, below. Quadrangular chapel A quadrangular chapel is attached to the basilica on the south. It measures 9.7 X 5.3 m and had a fine mosaic floor. Seemingly it served as a prothesis chapel / diakonikon. Its sill of entrance from the southern aisle is preserved low in the northern wall of the maqam. Tripartite The detached baptistery of the Early Basilica had continued to serve the Late one, with several modifications. A wide entrance from the street was installed in the eastern wall and to its front - a courtyard of stone pavement 5.50x11.30m in dimensions. At some later date a square room was added in the SE corner. The baptistery continued to serve into the Umayyad period. 1

13304 Shiloh The Pilgrims church Southern and Western Samaria Other An annexed wing of two rooms is located north of the chapel. The west room (marked J) is the least preserved in the building. Its eastern wall appears to be repaired and the original floor removed. A bench might have been built against its southern wall. Dimensions: 4.5X4.2 m. (Ovadiah), 4.8X5 m. (Andersen). The east room (Marked K) is divided into two parts by a row of pilasters and pillars. A pit was found up against the eastern wall, not enough information to determine its purpose. The wing is paved by a mosaic containing geometric, floral and animal decorations. An inscription is located in western part of the mosaic. Dimensions: 7.2X4.4 m. (Ovadiah), 4.8X7.26 m. (Andersen). 1

Quadrangular chapel Annexed on N. Resembling that of the Southern Church. Open to the N aisle. Paved by flagstones. A second opening, in the western wall, near the SW corner, is leading to the street. The bema is raised relative to the prayer hall. A base of a column that supported the arcading in front of it was discovered in situ. Quadrangular chapel Annexed on the S. A two, inter-connected units of a mosaic-paved quadrangular chapel with a somewhat trapezoidal shape. The font is located in the eastern unit, the western unit, larger in area, has an opening in its northern wall, leading to the S aisle. The font resembles Ben-Pechat type 3b. The area surrounding it was stone-paved. An opening in the southern wall of the eastern unit let access to the southwest part of the “Governor's House”. 1
11992 Shivta Shivta - North Church Central Negev Apsidal chapel The chapel, attached on the south, is a rectangular room (approx. 4.2 X 13.4 m) with a semicircular apse (2.9 m wide and 2.1 m deep) at the eastern end. The chapel is entered through a 1.15 m wide door from the southern aisle. A cupboard was installed in the upper part of the northern wall, near this doorway. A second door on the south leads into the bema of the baptismal chapel. On the floor of the apse a limestone socket for the altar table leg is in situ. A chancel separated the bema from the prayer hall. The floor of the chapel's nave and apse is paved with a colored mosaic with geometric patterns (Talgam et ali, 2022). Apsidal chapel The baptismal chapel consists of a vestibule (4.2 X 4.8 m) and the chapel proper (4.8 X 9.5 m) with a semicircular apse on the east. its chord 3.75 m, its depth 2.4 m and its height 5.5 m. The vestibule is entered from the southwestern corner of the basilica. Another doorway connected the bema of the baptismal chapel with the nave of the side chapel. The roof of the vestibule was carried by three arches, resting on pillars. The chapel itself is divided into the nave and the bema. The transverse bema raised two steps above the nave and is separated from it by a limestone screen. The monolithic baptismal font of cruciform shape is situated in the center of the apse.
