A trapezoidal room with two openings from the northern aisle. Two short rooms extending in from the lateral walls seems to have carried an arch, supporting the roof. A second room with no extant openings is located to its east. |

Trapezoidal room |
Two doorways in the western part of the northern wall of the church led to a large, trapezoidal room, 6.4 X 4.4 m, orientated north - south and divided to two parts by an arch. Along the western and northern walls of this room ran built benches with elevated sides. |

According to the plan published by Ilan, short walls running south, perpendicular to the southern wall, suggest the existence of three annexed rooms on this side of the church. According to the later plan drawn by Arubas and Edelkopp, the eastern of them was a rectangular hall, 7.5x3m in dimensions. An opening in the southern wall led in from the southern aisle. |

Quadrangular chapel |
Three rooms were discerned on the south; the eastern of them, 7.5x3m in dimensions, might had served as an annexed chapel. An opening in the southern wall led in from the southern aisle. |

A quadrangular chapel with a square stone serving as an altar base near its eastern wall. |
A two units annex. The eastern unit, measuring 4.1 X 3.5 m, was decorated by a mosaic floor of red, black and squares, diagonally arranged. This rectangular carpet, extending in front of the northern opening, is set off center, being shifted to the NW. It is surrounded by white bands, the eastern and southern ones being much broader than the eastern, suggesting wide shelves along these sides. Hence, the room and its antechamber could had served in phase 1 for registering and storing the offerings of the faithful.
Farther east - a wider oil-press was attached. |
|
|
Quadrangular chapel |
Adjoining the basilica on its northern side was a chapel, measuring 7.5 X 4.2 m. A 1.4 m wide entrance led into the chapel from the northern aisle. The base of a square column (0.5 sq m) has survived in the chapel's eastern part; perhaps an altar or a table for gifts was set upon it. |
Simple rectangular room |
In phase 2 the eastern unit of the southern annex got a baptismal font. The font was inserted deep into phase 1 mosaic floor, being surrounded on all sides by marble screens set into the floor without any stylobate. This square complex was installed in the center of the room, ignoring the layout of the existing mosaic carpet. Openings were left in the NW part of the northern screen and in the SE part of the southern screen (through which the font was evacuated by means of a lead pipe running underfloor). An inscription was set along the northern screen, on its outside. The drainage flow could be regulated by a valve covered by a marble plate to the SE of the square grill.
A 1.6 m wide opening led in from the southern aisle. Another opening, 0.9 m wide, in the western wall connected the room with the western unit - an anteroom - located at the southern end of the narthex. |
