The graded benches of the synthronon were apparently made of wood, since the remains of Lebanese cedar and a large number of nails were found in the vicinity of the apse. N & S The northern pastophorium measures 4 X 3.1 m. The floor is completely destroyed, probably by the Ottoman activity at the site. The room was lockable, since the northern doorpost stones survived in place. The southern pastophorium (called by the excavator "diaconicon") measures 3.35 X 3.1 m. The entrance to this room is 1.25 m wide. The room is paved with colored mosaic floor with floral and geometric patterns. In the middle of the bema The baptismal font is located at the center of the bema of the baptismal chapel annexed to the basilica from north. The font structure was changed during the time. At the beginning it was horseshoe shaped both from exterior and interior (type 3a). It was built of cement and small stones and faced with marble. Later on, a monolithic font, octagonal on the outside (0.85 m in diameter) and circular on the inside (0.65 m in diameter) (type 7c), was placed inside the original font. The height of the font in both periods was about 0.4 m above the floor. Masonry built semicircle circular 3a AM 1

Dimensions: 1.9 m. long, 0.58 m. wide and approx. 0.35 m. deep. Cut into bed rock with flagstones lining the sides. The tomb is contemporary with the room and possibly had a special status. Six trance graves cut into bedrock, four adults and two children, according to their orientation, facing south; they belong to the Islamic periods. SB 1

N & S The northern pastophorium measures 1.9 X 2.2 m. The door leading into this room from the aisle is 0.8 m wide. The room has one slot window high up on the wall, measuring 0.1 m wide on the interior and 0.3 m wide on the exterior. The southern pastophorium measures 2 X 2.3 m. This bore a wooden bench whose back supports were driven into holes in the wall 1.1 m above the pavement. In the middle of the synthronon is the base for the bishop's throne. It consisted of five steps raising to a height of 0.9 m. S The southern pastophorium is an irregular shaped room, 1.85 - 2.3 X 3.5 m, entered from the southern aisle through a doorway 0.7 m wide. It was probably unpaved. High up in the northern wall of this room is a tall rectangular niche. elsewhere Two small marble reliquaries and their sarcophagus-type covers were found in the chapel south of the basilica together with fragments of an altar table.
